Planning modern Floating Bed Design for your Chennai home? Whether you are designing an apartment in OMR, Velachery, or Anna Nagar, selecting the right materials and functional layouts ensures lifelong daily comfort. At Lakshi Home, we craft precision factory-finished interiors built specifically to endure Chennai coastal humidity, everyday heavy usage, and tropical heat.
Have you ever walked around the corner of your bed in the dark and stubbed your toe hard against a sharp wooden bed leg? Or tried sweeping underneath a heavy box-bed where neither a broom nor a robot vacuum can reach? That is why the Cantilevered Floating Bed with an Upholstered Wall Headboard has become one of our most requested master bedroom upgrades across Chennai in 2026.
Despite how weightless it looks, a properly engineered floating bed doesn’t actually hang only from the wall—it rests on a recessed structural plinth hidden deep beneath the frame.
🛏️ Why Chennai Homeowners Are Switching to Floating Beds
- Zero Toe-Stubbing: The support base is recessed 8–10 inches inward on all three walking sides.
- Makes Compact Bedrooms Look Larger: Seeing the floor continue uninterrupted beneath the bed frame + a warm 3000K under-bed LED glow visually opens up 10×12 ft rooms.
- Robot Vacuum Friendly: A 6-inch clear hover gap lets Dreame/Roborock vacuums and mops clean right under the bed edge.
- Rock-Solid 450+ kg Load Rating: Built with 18mm calibrated BWR plywood grid ribs and wall-anchor bolting.
1. Can You Still Get Under-Bed Storage in a Floating Bed?
Yes! You do not have to sacrifice storage for aesthetics. We build a Recessed-Plinth Hydraulic Storage Floating Bed: the inner 4.5×5.5 ft central box sits flush on the floor with heavy-duty 150 kg Hafele gas-lift hydraulic pistons (holding extra pillows, winter blankets, and suitcases), while the outer 8-inch perimeter frame cantilevers outward to create the floating shadow line and house the motion-sensor night light strip.
2. Choosing the Right Headboard Design for Your Master Bedroom
| Headboard Style | Comfort & Look | Maintenance in Chennai |
|---|---|---|
| Channel-Tufted Stain-Guard Suede / Boucle | Plush back support for late-night reading or watching TV | Use Scotchgard-treated performance fabric; vacuum monthly |
| Tan / Cream Vegan Leatherette | Sleek hotel-suite appeal; zero fabric dust retention | Wipes clean with a dry cloth in seconds (great for dust allergies) |
| Laminate + Fluted Wood with Cushioned Insert | Architectural full-wall look with floating side tables attached | Virtually zero maintenance; replaceable cushion pads |

Smart Electrical Addition: Two-Way Master Switches at Both Bedside Tables
When our team installs your headboard panelling, we conceal the wiring right behind the fluted wood panels to give both partners a two-way ceiling light switch, a warm reading sconce switch, and a fast-charging USB-C / 6A socket right above each floating nightstand.
Why Is Floating Bed Design Taking Over Chennai Luxury Bedrooms?
By elevating the mattress platform and opening up visible floor area, floating beds dramatically enhance room proportions in modern 2BHK and 3BHK apartments. Adhering to professional structural platform bed engineering principles guarantees structural integrity and lasting aesthetics across every cabinet surface.
How Does Under-Bed Clearance Simplify Bedroom Maintenance?
Traditional beds with dust-skirt valances trap dirt, whereas cantilevered platforms allow robotic vacuums and traditional mop sticks to sweep beneath effortlessly.
